Which of the many McDonald’s burgers, including the Big Mac and the Double Cheeseburger, has earned the title of “Worst Burger”?
Which is the most unhealthy burger at McDonald’s?
In recent years, fast food has been required to undergo a healthier and more eco-friendly makeover, and McDonald’s has announced plans to expand its product lineup to attract vegetarians and health-conscious people, including the development of McPlant, a 100% plant-based meat substitute. On the other hand, McDonald’s also has a menu item that has earned the title of “worst burger.
According to Eat This, Not That! USA, the Double Quarter Pounder Cheese has earned this dishonorable title.
The Double Quarter Pounder Cheese, a regular McDonald’s menu item in the U.S., is a hearty burger with two beef patties, about 2.5 times larger than a regular beef patty, onions, pickles, and two slices of cheese, and contains an astounding 740 calories.
Not only does this burger contain 42 grams of fat, but it also contains 2.5 grams of trans fatty acids. In addition, a serving of a medium size of fries with double quarter pounder cheese would result in a sodium intake of 1,620 milligrams per serving. Since the American Heart Association recommends a daily sodium intake of no more than 2,300 milligrams, and the ideal is no more than 1,500 milligrams per adult per day, that would be well over half of the daily requirement in just one meal.
Incidentally, Double Quarter Pounder Cheese was once a regular menu item at McDonald’s in Japan, but the Quarter Pounder series was discontinued in Japan as of 2017. Some may think, “Then there is no need to worry,” but McDonald’s in Japan has a super high-calorie burger that is comparable to the Double Quarter Pounder Cheese. The “Double Burger” series, which is sold as a nighttime McDonald’s only menu item, is a super high-calorie burger comparable to the Double Quarter Pounder Cheese. For example, the Double Big Mac has 724 calories and the Double Chicken Fillet has 709 calories, which are not much different from the Double Quarter Pounder Cheese in terms of calories alone.
