Johnny Depp won a defamation case against his ex-wife, Amber Heard.

Amber was ordered to pay $15 million in damages as a result. Johnny, who is currently in the U.K., released a statement saying that he is relieved to have his life back.

The trial began on April 11, local time, in Fairfax, VA. In court, Johnny and Amber Heard took the stand and stated the facts regarding past allegations of domestic violence.

On May 27, attorneys for both sides presented their closing arguments, and the jury began deliberations. On the afternoon of June 1, after more than 12 hours of deliberation, the jury decided that Johnny had won the case.

The jury decided that Johnny could win $15 million in damages, but due to Virginia law’s cap on punitive damages, Amber would pay $10.35 million.

Meanwhile, Amber filed a counterclaim against Johnny, one of three counts found to have defamed Amber. As a result, Johnny was ordered to pay $2 million in damages.

Johnny traveled to the U.K. in secret after the closing arguments by his lawyers, and surprised his fans by making a surprise appearance at a Jeff Beck concert in Yorkshire, U.K. on May 30, local time. He also jumped in to join Jeff on stage in London the next day.

Johnny, who is still in the UK, released a statement on his Instagram following his court victory.

Johnny said, “Six years ago, my life and my children’s lives, and the lives of those close to me and those who supported and believed in me for so many years, changed forever,” and he expressed his gratitude to the jury this way.

He went on to say, “And now, six years later, the jury has given me my life back. It’s truly a terrifying thing.”

According to the British media outlet Daily Mail Online, a source close to Johnny said that his trip to the UK “had been on his schedule as a job for some time.

On the day the victory in the trial was decided, Johnny was seen with Jeff Beck and singer Sam Fender at a pub in Newcastle, England. Photos obtained by the media show Johnny shaking hands with fans.

Amber, on the other hand, appeared in court wearing a black dress, and after the verdict was read, she gave a tight hug to her lawyer and left the courtroom.
