Last September, Gabby Petito, a 22-year-old New York woman who was traveling cross-country while documenting her road trip on YouTube, went missing and was later found dead. On the same day that a note written by her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, who was traveling with her and was a suspect in the case, before his death was discovered, a movie based on the case was spotted on the set.

Some have found it unrealistic.

The Gabby Petito Story, a film being made for the United States pay-TV network Lifetime, is being shot for the first time in the mountains near Salt Lake City, Utah. Thora Birch, who is directing the film, was seen giving some instructions to the actress playing Gabby and the actor playing Brian. Thora Birch will also play Gaby’s mother in the film. There was also a scene in which the two had a heated argument.

Many have taken issue with Lifetime’s decision to move forward with the project so quickly, with many taking issue with the film adaptation of the case, with Twitter users saying, “I can’t believe I’m saying this, but we don’t need a movie about the Gabby Petito murder,” and “Hollywood is making a movie about Gabby Petito ‘s death! It’s unrealistic,” some have said.

Also, a recently released note left in the swamp where Brian committed suicide reads, “I ended her life,” “I felt sorry for her,” and “This is what she wanted. I felt sorry for her. I thought this was what she wanted. But I was wrong. I’m panicking, I’m in shock. I’m in shock.
