The money Johnny Depp was supposed to earn for the sixth “Pirates of the Caribbean” film.
Although the series is currently in production for a new sixth film, Johnny has effectively dropped out of the role of Jack Sparrow due to a series of lawsuits he filed against his ex-wife, Amber Heard, for defamation. Johnny previously claimed that he learned that he had dropped the role after Amber published an op-ed in the Washington Post in 2018*.
Amber did not name Johnny in her op-ed for the Washington Post, but claimed that she is a survivor of domestic violence/domestic abuse. The editorial is said to have led to Johnny’s resignation from the role of Jack Sparrow, but Disney has never made an official announcement.
In his lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber, Johnny revealed that he was initially approached to participate in the script for the sixth film in the series. If he was to play the same role in the sixth film as planned, he had made a verbal agreement with the producers that he would receive $22.5 million (approximately 2.9 billion yen). In effect, it is believed that the talk of continuing with Jack Sparrow has been dropped, but considering that the amount is up from the $20 million advance payment up to the fifth film, it seems that Johnny’s work up to the fifth film was quite highly regarded.
