Jay Ellis, who played Payback in the movie “Top Gun Maverick,” talked about the most recent topics of conversation in a group chat.
The cast of “Top Gun Maverick” talked about “that topic” in a group chat.
In an interview with ET, Jay Ellis, who played Payback in “Top Gun Maverick,” the 36-year-old sequel to “Top Gun,” talked about how happy he was that the film was nominated for an Academy Award, and also revealed in a group chat with the cast that they were all talking about it.
At the 95th Academy Awards, which will be held on March 12 local time, “Top Gun Maverick” was nominated in six categories, including Best Picture. Unfortunately, Tom Cruise did not receive a Best Actor nomination, but he did receive his first nomination as a producer.
Jay said that being nominated for an Academy Award is a “dream” for the cast and production team, and mentioned the reaction of his co-stars, whom he says he still keeps in touch with via group chat.
He said, “Our usual email exchanges are all about how much I’ve enriched their [his co-stars’] lives and made them better people because they met me, and how much they love me. (I’m kidding.) Every once in a while, when good news comes in, like an Academy Award nomination, the chat is a blast.”
Incidentally, when Jay attended the Golden Globe Awards ceremony in January this year, he also said about this group chat in an interview with Us Weekly, “There is a ‘Top Gun’ group chat. I can’t go into detail about what is going on there, but we send each other things like ‘looking forward to seeing you tomorrow,’ ‘can’t wait to do it,’ and ‘not ready to do it yet,'” he said. She has also been in touch with Tom, and the day before the Golden Globe awards ceremony, she sent him a “good night” text message and received a “kissing face emoji” in return.
