The Disney blockbuster series “Pirates of the Caribbean” has been in the works for quite some time now since the announcement of the sixth film, but what is happening with the project now? After months of no news about the next film or its progress, some may feel that the once blockbuster series will never break out of its developmental doldrums. In the meantime, producer Jerry Bruckheimer has provided a promising update.

He was going to keep going until it was time to stop.

In an interview with ComicBook.com, Bruckheimer said, “I’m very excited and it’s going to be great. I’m working on the script. Ted Elliott, one of the original writers, is helping me with the script. He knows the characters very well.

Ted Elliott was an integral part of making Jack Sparrow, played by Johnny Depp, famous. He was previously announced to be involved in “Pirates of the Caribbean 6,” and knowing that he is still on the team, the project is headed in the right direction.

Of course, things are going to be a little different for the next Pirates film, as Johnny Depp and his character are not expected to return. Despite fan signature campaigns, Johnny and his representatives have assured us that Jack Sparrow will not be returning for the “Pirates of the Caribbean” sequel.

Johnny said in court during his defamation trial with Amber, “After a long relationship and a fairly successful relationship for Disney, to suddenly be found guilty until proven innocent…I didn’t understand it at all. In fact, I had been approached to participate in the script for the sixth “Pirates of the Caribbean” film. My feeling was that these characters deserved a proper farewell, so to speak. Franchises don’t last long and end that way. And I felt that these characters deserved to end the franchise in a good way. I was going to keep going until it was time to stop,” he commented.

Plans for a sixth “Pirates of the Caribbean” film were changed after Johnny’s firing, with the studio reportedly planning to focus on a new character from the fifth film and a female lead to replace Jack Sparrow. The role will be played by Margot Robbie.
