Kirillo Budanov, head of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry’s General Directorate of Information, said in an interview with Ukrainian media that he expects “the war will all be over by next summer.” The state-run news agency Ukruinform reported on October 18.

The ‘Federation’ of the Russian Federation is just a name.

Referring to the Russian-occupied southern Helson Oblast, Budanov said, “By the end of this year, we will make great progress. We will know soon enough,” he stressed. He added, “It is of the utmost importance that we reach the 1991 borders (including the Crimean Peninsula).

Ukraine gained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. Russia had declared its unilateral annexation of the Crimean Peninsula in 2014.

He also noted that when the war ends, “some regions will separate from Russia,” which he believes will begin in the Caucasus region. Budanov said, “Russia has many territorial disputes. The ‘federation’ of the Russian Federation is just a name. As soon as the regime collapses, it will all fall apart,” he said.
