King Charles has five grandchildren, but when his first grandson, Prince George, was born, he may not have been used to being treated the way he was, and “held him like a dud,” an expert said.

Looking back at the time when King Charles was an “apprentice grandfather

King Charles has five grandchildren: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, born to Prince William and Princess Catherine, his eldest son, and Archie and Lilibet, born to Prince Harry and Meghan, his second son. Queen Consort Camilla also has four grandchildren, and according to Marie Claire, King Charles spends a lot of time with them as well.

King Charles is now a “granddad” with nine grandchildren, but when his first grandchild, Prince George, was born, his attitude toward his grandchildren was not as natural as it is now, Judy James, an expert on body language, told Marie Claire. “When my first grandchild, Prince George, was born, my attitude toward him was not as natural as it is now,” she tells Marie Claire.

When his first grandson, Prince George, was born, King Charles was 65 and he was still ‘Grandpa Apprentice. (Compared to when Prince George was a young boy), his demeanor suggests a more confident and practical approach to his four grandchildren, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, and Queen Consort Camilla.”

James said that being an “Apprentice Grandpa” was also evident in the way he held Prince George, “In the few photos of the two of them together, King Charles seems to be holding Prince George like a dud. The affection is palpable, but there is an impression of restraint in the relaxed touching and cuddling,” he noted.

Incidentally, Mr. James also expressed the view that King Charles sometimes treats Prince George a little differently than his other grandchildren, partly because of the prince’s position as future king, and he described their relationship as “probably a very deep bond that leads to passion, purpose, and mutual respect, and it’s a relationship that burns slowly. It is a slow-burning relationship”.
