Chinese American singer Coco Lee, who died at the age of 48, committed suicide on Tuesday at the hands of her sisters Carol and Nancy.

The following is a statement released by the family, which reads as follows:

To all the fans and friends who loved and cared for CoCo Lee:

It is with great sadness that we tell you the sad news: CoCo unfortunately suffered from depression a few years ago, after a long struggle with the disease, but unfortunately recently her condition took a sharp turn for the worse and she died at home on July 2, after being sent to the hospital in a coma.

The year 2023 would have been CoCo’s 30th anniversary. In the past 29 years, she has not only brought us endless joy and surprise with her songs and dances, but has also worked hard to break new ground for Chinese singers in the international music scene, and has been doing her best to shine for the Chinese.

As CoCo’s family, we are very grateful and honored to have such a wonderful and outstanding sister, and we are grateful to God for giving us such a kind angel! Now, our biggest responsibility is to take good care of our elderly mother, and we hope everyone will pray for her and give us the space and time to heal!
