Her representative later released a statement explaining that Gigi had legally purchased marijuana in New York and was in possession of it along with a medical license. Marijuana is illegal in the Cayman Islands, but is only legal if it is for medical use.

Cayman Islands media outlet Cayman Marl Road reported on July 17 local time that Gigi Hadid left the United States on a private plane on July 10 this month and arrived in Grand Cayman Island in the Cayman Islands.

Upon landing at Owen Roberts International Airport, Gigi and her friends were subjected to an X-ray scanner and other baggage screening by Customs and Border Protection officials upon entry. At that time, the baggage of Gigi and her friend and influencer Leah McCarthy, 29, was examined more closely, and small amounts of marijuana and inhalation devices were found in it.

Although authorities determined that these were for personal use, Gigi and Leah were arrested for importing marijuana and inhalation devices.

The two were then taken to the Royal Cayman Islands Detention Center to complete the necessary formalities, after which they were released on bail pending a ruling by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

On July 12 local time, Gigi and Leah appeared in the local Summary Court and were formally charged; both pleaded guilty and were fined $1,000 (about $138,800) each, with no conviction recorded.

After the news report, Gigi’s representative sent a statement to the U.S. media outlet E! News, explaining

Gigi was traveling with marijuana legally purchased in New York City, along with her medical license. Marijuana has been legalized in Grand Cayman Island for medical use since 2017. Her charges went unrecorded and she enjoyed the rest of her time on the island.”

Medical marijuana has been legal in the Cayman Islands since May 2017 as a prescription drug for pain management, chemotherapy-induced nausea, and many other conditions. However, recreational use is illegal and can result in penalties.

Gigi and Leah stayed at a local luxury boutique hotel, Palm Heights, and were seen enjoying karaoke while on vacation. They reportedly left the country after their vacation on July 15, local time.

Gigi seemed to have enjoyed her vacation on the island, and on July 14, local time, she showed off a relaxed figure in a swimsuit on her Instagram. The picture shown was of Gigi sitting on a reclining chair placed on the beach, wearing a bikini and no makeup.

Another photo showed Gigi lying on the recliner, surprising followers with a large dragon tattoo next to her hip.

On July 18, local time, one night after the arrest report, Gigi updated her Instagram to show several new photos taken at her vacation destination. The post was accompanied by the words “All’s well that ends well,” and included a scene of Gigi cuddling with fellow women in a bathing suit, as well as a sarcastic photo showing the contents of her handbag.

Followers commented, “She doesn’t mind at all. LOL.” “Didn’t she just get arrested?” Gigi is winning the “I don’t give a shit” battle. I’m laughing my ass off.
