They spent a lot of money and time on a trial that had nothing to do with them. We want that money back. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of New York, through the courts, demanded that Johnny Depp do so.

The ACLU’s argument is that he is entitled to at least get his lawyer’s fees back.

The amount the ACLU is seeking is $86,253.26. They say that because of Depp’s demand through the court, they had to review more than 7,500 documents and file more than 2,000 for this defamation trial. In addition, three officials, including COO Terrence Doty, have been called as witnesses and forced to testify for a total of 16 hours. During that time, Depp did not listen to us when we asked him to compromise, saying that the burden was too much. They argue that they are entitled to at least get back the legal fees they incurred.

The ACLU may be acting accordingly, but it is out of line to say that they were inconvenienced by Depp’s actions. The ACLU is the one who started this court case in the first place.

When Amber Heard was to receive $7 million from Depp in her 2016 divorce, she declared that she would donate half of the entire amount to two charities. One of the charities named was the ACLU, a nonprofit organization that has been fighting for equality and freedom for a long, long time. Shortly thereafter, Depp sent a check for $100,000, the first installment of the split, directly to the ACLU for Hurd. Later, Hurd told Depp not to donate directly, but to pay him first, so Depp did not send any money, but he did receive some donation from Hurd and a $500,000 donation for Hurd from Elon Musk, who was dating Hurd.

The ACLU probably wanted to flatter Hurd for donating to them in such a way; in the fall of 2018, the ACLU came up with the idea of having Hurd become an ambassador and write opinion articles as a victim of domestic violence. However, the ACLU staff would actually write the article, not Hurd. Hurd read it and had his lawyer check to see if it violated the covenant he made with Depp during their divorce not to talk about the past.

Heard and the ACLU then decided to publish the article at the time of the premiere of “Aquaman,” the first blockbuster film of Heard’s career. They wanted to coincide with the attention the movie was getting and to project an image to people of a conscious and courageous actress fighting for women.

After reading the article, Depp finally lost his patience. While not naming Depp by name, she said, “Two years ago, I became a public figure representing victims of domestic violence. In May 2016, Heard, who was divorced from Depp, went to file for a temporary restraining order with a bruised face when Depp left Los Angeles for his band’s tour, and was told by Depp that he had He told the media that he had been subjected to domestic violence. Anyone who saw that news story would no doubt connect the anonymous person in this article to Depp. So Depp decided to file this defamation lawsuit.

The ACLU, of course, wrote this article from the beginning, meaning Depp. In fact, the ACLU sold the “Washington Post” on the idea that the article was written by Amber Heard, who was violently attacked by Johnny Depp.

The ACLU is superficially a third party but actually a party in this trial. It is lucky that it was not named as a defendant. Yet, they are proudly playing the victim. On social media, Depp’s supporters are saying, “I’m appalled,” “I can’t believe this,” “I won’t donate to the ACLU anymore,” and so on.

Jury Discussion Begins

Meanwhile, in Fairfax, Virginia, jury deliberations began in earnest on Tuesday after the Memorial Day holiday (the jurors went home relatively quickly after last Friday’s closing arguments). (After last Friday’s closing arguments, the jurors went home relatively quickly.) Lawyers are standing by to answer any questions the jurors may have, but Depp has already left the area. This past weekend, he surprised the crowd in England with an unexpected appearance at a Jeff Beck concert. He has no intention of returning to Virginia when the verdict is read.

The identity of the jurors is being hidden, but CourtTV, which was broadcasting the trial live, reports that there were five men and two women, ranging in age from their 20s to their 60s. It was also reported that during the jury selection process, only a minority of the jurors knew about the Depp and Heard scandal.
