Why Kate Moss Testified at Johnny Depp’s Trial

Model Kate Moss, who testified as a witness for Johnny Depp in his trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard for defamation this past May, revealed on BBC Radio 4’s “Desert Island Discs” why she testified on Johnny’s behalf.

As many of you know, Johnny and Kate were former lovers who dated from 1994 to 1998. Kate had nothing to do with Johnny and Amber’s trial, but was called as a witness to confirm the truth when Amber testified in court that she heard rumors that Johnny pushed Kate down a flight of stairs. Kate, who participated in court via video, denied the rumors completely, saying that it was true that she fell down the stairs on a trip, but only because she slipped on her own and not because Johnny pushed her down. She also testified that “he never pushed me, kicked me, or pushed me down the stairs.

When asked on the program why she decided to testify, Kate said, “I believe in truth, and in fairness and justice,” and continued, “I know the truth about Johnny. I know that he never pushed me down the stairs. I needed to tell that truth.

In the trial, the jury found that Amber’s 2018 op-ed in the Washington Post was defamatory and ordered Amber to pay a total of $15 million in damages to Johnny. Amber also won $2 million in damages in her counterclaim against Johnny.

Amber’s side then asked the court to set aside the verdict, claiming that one of the jurors had been replaced by someone else, but the judge denied Amber’s motion, saying that there was no evidence of fraud or wrongdoing on the part of the jurors. In response, Amber’s side recently filed a formal request for an appeal.

Court records show that Johnny also appealed the $2 million verdict last Friday. A source close to Johnny explains to the New York Post, “The outcome of the trial was positive for Johnny, and he thinks it’s time for them to move on with their lives, but Amber’s appeal has forced him to file his own appeal. Amber’s appeal has forced him to appeal.
