Amber Heard (36), who was sued for defamation by her ex-husband, American actor Johnny Depp (59), and lost the case, has formed a new legal team for the appeal trial.

Depp’s return to Hollywood has been announced.

According to ABC News, the new defense team announced on August 15, “The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which guarantees (freedom of expression, etc.), is the most important of all. We welcome the opportunity to take charge of Ms. Heard’s case in an appeals court that has important implications for all Americans.

 

She continued, “I am confident that the Court will not be distracted by popular popularity and will correctly adapt the law to overturn the first instance decision against Ms. Heard and reaffirm the fundamental principle of free speech.” Heard’s attorney also issued a written statement saying that “this is not the beginning of the end, just the end of the beginning,” and that “a different courtroom means a different development.

 

In a verdict handed down in a court in Fairfax, Virginia on June 1, the jury upheld Depp’s case and the judgment ordered defendant Heard to pay more than $10 million in damages. On the other hand, in a defamation lawsuit filed by Heard for insulting Heard during the trial, she admitted the claim and ordered Depp to pay $2 million.

 

Heard’s side appealed the case on the 21st of last month, but Depp, who won the case in the first trial, returned to Hollywood. According to FOX News, Depp will direct the film for the first time in about 30 years, it was announced on August 15. He will co-produce with Al Pacino and others on “Modi,” a biopic about the life of 19th century Italian painter and sculptor Modigliani.

 

The film is an adaptation of the play “Modigliani” by playwright Dennis McIntyre, and will focus on a certain period of the artist’s life in Paris. The production is scheduled to be cranked in next year in Europe.
