Johnny Depp has garnered attention for his parody of himself in a new trailer for the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.

The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival presented Depp with the Crystal Globe for Outstanding Contribution to World Cinema in 2021, during a time when his Hollywood career was in the doldrums due to a court battle with his ex-wife, Amber Heard.

Depp and Heard were engaged in a heated legal battle after their 15-month marriage collapsed. After winning a defamation lawsuit against Heard last year, Depp made a spectacular return to showbiz and received a standing ovation when his film “Jeanne du Barry” premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.

And now he is starring in a new trailer that was screened Friday at the opening ceremony of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.

Filmed at a luxurious hotel in Budapest, the trailer features Depp in an interview. He arrives at the hotel but is stuck in the hotel’s revolving door because he is carrying a guitar, among other chuckles.

Czech advertising director Ivan Zacharias recalled the time they shot Depp’s new trailer at the Hotel Gellért in Budapest. Commenting, “As soon as we started shooting, he told me he wanted to improvise,” Zacharias continued, “I was a little surprised at first, but then Johnny decided to put even more of his own personality into the trailer, and it turned out to be a great idea.”
