Rihanna to perform at the 57th halftime show

In the past, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, The Weeknd, and in 2022, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar have performed at the NFL’s summit Super Bowl halftime show.

The 2023 Super Bowl was scheduled to be held at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on February 12, U.S. time, and the artists who will perform at the halftime show have also been selected.

The 57th Super Bowl halftime show will be handled by a whopping Rihanna. Rihanna has not released any of her own music since her 2016 album “Anti,” although she has released songs as a featured artist. Rihanna has often been seen in and out of the studio recently, and just as rumors were circulating that she would finally release a new song, her performance at the halftime show was announced.

Rihanna and the NFL, who have been at odds for years

In fact, Rihanna was said to have been in the running for an artist to perform at the 2019 halftime show, but the plans were ultimately scrapped.

Behind the pause in the plans was the Take a Knee protest movement by NFL players.

In 2017-2018, a surge in the number of players kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial issues in the United States, commonly known as “take a knee,” sparked outrage from conservatives, including U.S. President Donald Trump, and the NFL banned players from protesting. The NFL banned players from protesting, and Colin Capernick, who was the first to kneel in protest, was unable to sign a contract with any team.

As a result, many celebrities expressed frustration with the NFL’s stance on conservatives, and Rihanna was so bitter with the NFL that on the day of the 2019 Super Bowl, she posted a comment on Instagram saying, “We (herself and the NFL) don’t get along.

Jay Z’s intervention led to a reconciliation with the NFL?

But then Roc Nation, run by Beyonce’s husband, rapper Jay Z, announced a partnership with the NFL. In addition to providing entertainment-related consulting services, including a halftime show, the two companies have collaborated on Inspire Change, part of the NFL’s recently launched campaign for equal employment opportunities.

Rihanna credits Jay-Z as one of her mentors who helped her become a top artist. Perhaps because of this, Rihanna attended the Super Bowl 2022 as a spectator with her boyfriend, Asap Rocky. It was said that the feud between Rihanna and the NFL had thawed out.

Jay Z said of Rihanna’s appearance at the halftime show, “Rihanna is one of the most talented of her generation, someone who has a humble upbringing and has exceeded expectations at every turn. A person who was born on the small island of Barbados and has become one of the most celebrated artists of all time. He has succeeded on his own in business and entertainment,” the statement said.

Incidentally, although the halftime show has been sponsored by Pepsi, it will be sponsored by Apple Music starting in 2023.

Rihanna is returning to the music industry after a six-year absence, and we can’t wait to see what kind of performance she will give.
