Entrepreneur Elon Musk, who acquired Twitter, apparently forced his employees to make the ultimate choice.
Either do a thorough job or quit!
CNN has now obtained a copy of an internal email that Elon Musk recently sent to Twitter employees. The text of the e-mail said, “Decide by Thursday (November 17) whether to do extremely hardcore (thorough) work or leave the company.
Elon sent the e-mail, titled “A fork in the road,” to employees late at night. He wrote, “In order to build a breakthrough “Twitter 2.0″ and succeed in an increasingly competitive industry, you will need to be extremely hard core. This means working long hours and under high tension. Only outstanding performance is a passing grade,” he said.
He also explained that Twitter will be “more engineering-driven” in the future, “If you are convinced that you want to be part of the new Twitter, click on the link below and click ‘yes’. If you are convinced that you want to be a part of the new Twitter company, please click ‘yes’ on the link below,” he said, attaching what appears to be an online form.
It also said that employees who did not click “yes” by 5 p.m. local time on November 17 would be given three months severance pay.
Elon Musk acquired Twitter in late October. On November 4, he reportedly told approximately 3,700 employees, or about half of the company’s workforce, that they would be laid off via “e-mail. In addition, many former employees are said to have learned of their job losses when access to Slack, a business messaging application, was suddenly suspended.
