The Backstreet Boys are scheduled to celebrate their 30th anniversary in April 2023.
Their ninth original album “DNA,” released in January 2019, debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. album chart (Billboard HOT 200) and is still a legendary album. This time, all five original members from the band’s debut were on stage together.
An outstanding performance! This is a legendary boy group!
Despite it being a weekday, the Ariake Arena was packed. Many non-Japanese were also in attendance. Just after the show time passed and the venue went dark, the five members appeared on stage to the opening song “Everyone. As soon as the audience saw them, they were greeted with thunderous applause and cheers. They sang “I Wanna Be With You,” a song from their debut album “Backstreet Boys.
After the fourth song, “Don’t Want You Back,” Brian began his MC. Thank you guys! Thank you all for coming to the Backstreet Boys World Tour!” And in Japanese, “Thank you guys! He then asked the audience in English, “Who’s ever been to a Backstreet Boys concert before? he asked the audience in English. Many hands went up with loud cheers. Then first timers!” Again, many hands went up. Anyway, I hope you enjoy tonight! He then sang his solo song “Nobody Else.
After that, the five sang “New Love,” a song from “DNA,” the title album of this tour. After singing “Get Down,” Howie went on to MC. Tokyo, Japan! I’m so glad you came,” he greeted in English, followed by “Hello! How are you? I’ve wanted to come to Japan for a long time! I’ve always wanted to come to Japan! I’ve always wanted to come to Japan! I’m so happy to be back tonight! Thank you all so much! He then went on to sing “Chateau” as a solo. Thank you so much, Japan!
Backstreet’s Back!” The lyrics of the famous song “Everybody” filled the audience with joy.
After the costume change, all five sang the classic “Show Me The Meaning” again. The five members performed “Undone” using stand-up microphones and showed a beautiful formation of the five members perfectly aligned. After “More Than That,” Nick began his MC.
Hello, Tokyo! Good evening!” He suddenly greeted the audience in Japanese, to the delight of the audience. How are you feeling tonight? The audience responded in English with “YEAH! The audience responded in English, “YEAH! The Backstreet Boys are back in Japan! Nick’s words got the audience even more excited. The audience got even more excited when Nick said, “Backstreet’s Back in Japan! The audience cheered for “Backstreet’s Back,” and Nick sang the chorus of “Everybody,” to which the audience shouted “Alright! The audience shouted, “Thirty years! It’s been 30 years! It’s unbelievable,” Nick said as he exclaimed with joy that this year would mark the 30th anniversary of his debut. He then sang his solo song “The Way It Is Talk Music.

After singing “Chances” with all five members, they sang the classic “Shape of My Heart,” with AJ sitting on the steps and singing along, and Nick and Howie making a big heart symbol together. After “Drowning,” Kevin and AJ went to the front of the stage. After “Drowning,” Kevin and AJ went to the front of the stage and began to sing “Good evening, Tokyo? Hello! Are you having fun tonight? It’s great to be back in Tokyo. And not just one night, not just two, but three! AJ expressed his feelings of missing his Tokyo fans for so long: “I’m so happy to see you all! Thank you so much, we love you!”
Kevin’s MC followed. Good evening, Tokyo! Good evening, Thank you so much.” “As AJ said, we are so happy to be back in Japan. Are you enjoying the music?” In front of the excited audience, two black enclosures appeared on stage.
No way they were dressed live! The Backstreet Boys are certainly still idols!
AJ and Kevin walked into the enclosures, saying, “We’re going to do a quick costume change,” “Quick change,” and “Bye-bye, closers. What would it be like to change right here?” To their surprise, the two started to change in there. Then AJ threw the boots that had been taken off out of the enclosure. And when they hung the pants they had taken off on the partition, “C’aaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! and the audience went wild.
The taller Kevin could be seen naked on the top half of his body. The two were explaining about the “DNA” album, but the audience’s eyes were glued to the two in their fresh clothes. But then came the unbelievable fan service. AJ and Kevin showed off their autographed underwear (briefs), and the audience laughed, but then, to their surprise, they threw them at the audience! The audience went half-crazy. The audience went half-crazy.
I am not sure if I am allowed to use such a word for these veterans, but I felt that they are truly the pinnacle of “idols”. No, they certainly must have been idol favorites 20 years ago; they are definitely one of those idol groups like One Direction or BTS that are loved by their fans with enthusiasm from all over the world. The Backstreet Boys are certainly still idols!
What a year, their 30th anniversary this year! You guys have some of the best fans in the world!”
After a brief moment of excitement, the five of them took the stage together again. After “Quit Playing Games (Visual Content),” they performed their famous 1997 song “As Long As You Love Me. The audience was excited and reminiscing about that time, and next came “No Place,” a song released in 2019. The music video played on the monitor, and the members explained that the music video featured their families. The old and current songs are really great.

Then all five members went on to MC. It’s been 30 years!” the members began to talk about their joy about the 30 years since their debut. Even though Kevin left the group temporarily, there are probably very few groups that can celebrate their 30th anniversary with the same members as when they debuted. No wonder they say, “It’s unbelievable. And a word of thanks to the fans who supported them. Thank you Japan! You guys are the best fans in the world!”
Then came the beautiful a cappella rendition of “Breathe,” to which the audience clapped their hands. The next song, “Don’t Want to Love You Now,” had the audience turning on their phone lights and the whole venue was enveloped in a beautiful glow. The audience was intoxicated by the harmony of the beautiful ballads that followed, as if to say that this was the king of male vocal groups. After singing “All I Have To Give,” all five members performed with hats.
The performance reached its climax. Their signature song “I Want It That Way” was a storm of chorus!
The Backstreet Boys appeared again with a costume change. In contrast to the ballad songs they had performed earlier, they began to sing a more energetic song. After the audience heated up with “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back),” they sang a medley of four songs that brought the excitement of the audience to a climax. When they sang “The One,” the band members encouraged the audience to “Put up your hands!
In the midst of such peak excitement, the introduction of the last song finally rang out. The audience cheered and applauded more than any other song of the day. The song was “I Want It That Way,” a song that has been viewed 1.1 billion times on YouTube and is one of the most popular Backstreet Boys songs of the 90’s. Tell me why♪ Ain’t nothin But a heartache~♪ The audience sang along in a storm of chorus.

Then came the encore.
The Backstreet Boys closed the show by singing “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” and “Larger Than life.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the debut of the Backstreet Boys. Despite the members being in their 40s and 50s, they completed the two-hour stage performance. Their singing ability was as strong as when they debuted, and their dance moves were as light as ever. The group had the air of a group that could be described as the greatest of all time. I was still a student at the time of their debut, and there seemed to be at least one fan in my class. I had no idea that decades later, they would still be such an inspiring group.
After a successful three-day tour of Tokyo, the Backstreet Boys posted words of thanks to their Japanese fans on Twitter on February 18.
🇯🇵サンキュー東京 🇯🇵 It had been far too long since we last visited. Thanks for always welcoming us back with open arms!
