According to People magazine, Princess Catherine visited the Irish Guards on 8 March.

The Irish Guards is one of the units of the British Kingsguard, an infantry unit that performs guarding and guard duty for the monarch as well as being a live-fire unit. Princess Catherine was appointed a Colonel in the Irish Guards last year.

On this snowy day, Princess Catherine took part in an exercise at the Irish Guards’ training ground. At the exercise, she supported Corporal Jodie Newell in treating wounded soldiers.

According to the magazine, Catherine also “learnt how anti-poaching assistance is provided to troops in East Africa and how the unit assists the Ukrainian army in demining operations”. At the end of the visit, she also saw a demonstration of the weapons systems used by the unit.

During her visit, Princess Catherine is said to have asked the guards many questions, such as how their training was going and whether they were building better relationships in the community.

Princess Catherine’s husband, Prince William, was a former colonel in the Irish Guards. However, with Princess Catherine’s new title as Princess of Wales, she became the new Colonel-in-Chief.
