At the 95th Academy Awards ceremony, Top Gun Maverick was nominated in six categories, including Best Picture. However, it was learned on the day that lead actor Tom Cruise was absent from the awards ceremony.

People magazine confirmed with Tom’s representative that Tom is currently filming the latest Mission: Impossible film (the eighth film) and admitted that he is unable to attend the awards ceremony as he is staying abroad. If Top Gun Maverick wins the award, it will be accepted by Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the film.

In February, before the 95th Academy Awards ceremony, a luncheon was held in Los Angeles for the nominees, where Tom was also seen. His absence from the ceremony was therefore a bit of a surprise to fans and the industry, but anyone would have understood if it was because he was filming his latest movie.

Top Gun Maverick was the highest-grossing film of 2022 in the US. Big-name director Steven Spielberg praised Tom’s work at the time, saying, “You saved Hollywood with this film”. It remains to be seen how many Oscars the film will win.
