Actress Zoe Saldana has shared an update on the filming of Avatar 3.

Zoe plays Neytiri, a member of the Na’vi tribe on the planet Pandora, in James Cameron’s famous sci-fi action series Avatar. Neytiri falls in love with human Jake Sully, played by Sam Worthington, and builds a family with him, who permanently inhabits the body of a Na’vi. The success of the original film has led Cameron to plan four Avatar sequels. The latest film will be released ten years after the last, and there are high expectations for the others.

Against this backdrop, Zoe gave some insight to Entertainment Tonight. After expressing her excitement about the series, Zoe gave an update on filming, revealing that, in contrast to Cameron’s previous comments, she is “only 70% done”. ‘I’m going to go back [to shoot] this summer and finish it, it’s 70% done. But there is still time.”

Avatar 3 was originally announced as part of Cameron’s four sequel plans and was scheduled for release in 2015, but was repeatedly delayed due to the lengthy development cycle. When production finally began on Avatar: The Way of Water last year, it was reported that Cameron was simultaneously filming the next trilogy in New Zealand to shoot underwater scenes featuring fully CGI characters.

Interestingly, it was reported that filming on Avatar 3 had finished in late December 2020 after three full years of production. Therefore, this new comment from Zoe is surprising, as it suggests that further production is needed.
