Clueless is a coming-of-age comedy film that had a huge impact on the fashion industry. Alicia Silverstone, who starred in the film, reflected on working with co-star Brittany Murphy at a recent 90s Con panel.
Brittany Murphy’s co-stars commented on how talented the late Brittany Murphy was.
When asked about their first impressions of each other, Alicia said, “I remember Brittany coming in. She was so wonderful.” In Clueless, Brittany played Ty, a new girl at school.
Breckin Meyer, who played Travis in the film, also recalled his audition with Brittany and how relieved he felt when he got the role. ‘Brittany and I played boyfriend and girlfriend in a few [films],’ recalled Breckin. ‘So it was nice when I auditioned. Any time you audition with someone you know, it’s like, ‘I can tick one box’, which was really cool. I went to the auditions on a skateboard. Not because it was fun, but because I didn’t have any money,” she continued.
Brittany died in December 2009 from pneumonia with anaemia and ‘multiple drug poisoning’ from prescription and over-the-counter drugs. She was 32 years old.
Alicia told Vogue the previous year that she thought Brittany was perfect for the role of Ty, recalling the audition process for Clueless.
‘I remember thinking she was a great fit for the role. I can’t remember how many girls auditioned for Ty that day. （I don’t know if I saw some of the girls [at the audition] or just her, but what I do remember is that Brittany was really lovely’, she said of her first meeting with Brittany.
