It has been revealed that Sarah Ferguson has not been invited to King Charles’ coronation.
King Charles’ coronation will take place at Westminster Abbey in London on 6 May.
Around 2,000 guests from home and abroad have reportedly been invited, but Sarah Ferguson, the ex-wife of his own brother Prince Andrew, is not among them.
Sarah, who is also the mother of the King’s niece, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, married Prince Andrew in 1986 but divorced him in 1996 following an affair scandal.
However, she lived with Prince Andrew for some time after the divorce, and it was reported that she had taken in the Queen’s dog after Queen Elizabeth’s death last September, so it was thought that she still had strong ties to the royal family.
For Sarah, on the other hand, it did not come as a shock that she did not receive an invitation.
Appearing on the ITV talk show Loose Wome recently, Sarah said that as long as she and Prince Andrew are divorced, it is unlikely that she will receive an invitation.
In the programme, Sarah said: ‘We’re going to have a coronation sandwich* in a little café that day, and we’re going to put out a flag to celebrate. It’s only personal,” and hinted that she might not attend the ceremony on the day.
(Sandwich with curry-flavoured chicken on top. It was made in honour of the coronation of the late Queen Elizabeth.
Sarah’s ex-husband, Prince Andrew, is expected to attend the coronation.
Prince Andrew was stripped of all royal and military posts by Queen Elizabeth following a major scandal involving his involvement with millionaire Jeffrey Epstein, who was once convicted of sexually abusing minors.
It is therefore unlikely that he will play a significant role on the day.
