Alec Baldwin has returned to the set of his film Rust.

Alec joined the filming of the western film Rust in October 2021. While practising with a revolver, a single gunshot was fired, wounding director Joel Souza and killing cinematographer Halina Hutchins. The incident led to the filming being cancelled. Alec later vehemently denied pulling the trigger of the gun.

More than a year after the incident, Alec was charged with manslaughter, but Deadline reports that the charges against Alec have been dropped.

Alec was filming the film in Montana on Friday 21 April local time. He was photographed by paparazzi holding a gun backwards. It is not clear whether he was filming the scene at the moment this photo was taken or if he was just holding the weapon that way as a precaution.

Alec was also dressed in a brown coat, grey shirt, trousers and cowboy boots and was holding the barrel of a rifle. His costume also included a cowboy hat and a scarf around his neck.

Director Joel Souza, who was also injured in the accident, is believed to be one of the few original crew members left on the production.

When the charges against Alec were dropped, his lawyers, Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro, told CNN that they were “pleased with the decision to drop the charges against Mr Alec Baldwin and urge a proper investigation into the facts and circumstances of this tragic accident”.

The charges against Hannah Gutierrez Reid, a former weapons officer who was also accused of the same crime as Alec, have not yet been dropped and the case and Alec’s involvement in it may be re-investigated in the future.
