Why Emma Watson is taking a break from acting.

Emma Watson, known for her roles as Hermione in the Harry Potter film series and Belle in the live-action Beauty and the Beast, told the Financial Times why she has been taking a break from acting in recent years.

Emma has not disappeared from the public eye, giving magazine interviews, attending celebrity gatherings and appearing in Harry Potter specials, as she did this time, but she has been away from acting since her last film, Little Women, which was released in 2019 (*2020 in Japan). The film was released in 2019 (*Japan: 2020).

On the reasons for this, Emma says: “To be honest, I wasn’t very happy. (I felt a bit trapped (as if I was trapped),” she continued.

‘What I found really hard was that I had to go out and sell something that I didn’t have much control over. I had to carry the work on my back and have journalists ask me, ‘How does this fit in with your point of view?’ ‘, it was very difficult to act as the face and representative of the work, even though I wasn’t involved in the production process. I became frustrated at being held accountable when I had no voice or say. And if someone blamed me, in a way that didn’t make me hate myself, I would say, ‘Yes, I failed. It was my decision. I’ve come to only want to stand in front of something where I can say, ‘I should have done better’.”

Incidentally, since her time on Harry Potter, Emma says that people around her have told her that she should be a director or producer, and she both directed and starred in a Prada advertising campaign in 2022. Although she is now interested in such behind-the-scenes work, she is open to returning to acting, and when asked if she intends to act again, she said: ‘Yes, of course. But I’m also happy to sit back and wait for the right work. I love what I do. I need to find a way to not divide myself into different faces and personalities. I don’t want to switch to robot mode anymore,” she replies.
