Is the amount of money Vin Diesel, who voices Groot in the Guardians of the Galaxy MCU film series, has earned just from Groot’s ‘I am Groot’ line too huge? Series director James Gunn answered fans’ questions.

Guardians of the Galaxy: VOLUME 3 was released on 3 May and is already off to the best start in the series’ history, with box office revenues surpassing $282 million. The series, which has made Chris Pratt, who plays Star-Lord/Peter Quill, and others into international stars, is also known for the voice cast of the Guardians, with Vin Diesel voicing Groot and Bradley Cooper voicing Rocket.

Vin is one of the world’s most profitable actors, with the latest Fast X, the tenth film in the Wild Speed series in which he stars, also opening on 19 May, and he has apparently made a lot of money playing Groot.

Groot is known for only speaking the words ‘I am Groot’, but Vin has so far played various versions of ‘I am Groot’ to Groot in eight MCU films, including the Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers series. He has also blasted the song.

Director James Gunn reacts to Vin Diesel’s pay rumours.

It is rumoured that the amount of money Vin has earned through MCU films just for the line “I am Groot” is huge, and one fan’s Google search seems to have come up with $54 million.

This is not an impossible amount considering that Vin is a world-renowned actor and that it is an MCU film, but the fan posted this information on Twitter, quoting and retweeting a tweet from James Gunn, the director of the series.

Gunn was then forced to respond to the tweet, replying to it with the following one-word reply, along with an emoji that meant he was laughing. ‘It’s not true.’

The fact that Gunn reacted with a crying smile emoji suggests that he meant “that’s too much”, but there are rumours online that Vinh may have received a fee of USD 13 million for each series. The rumour is whispered online that Vinh may have received $13 million (about ¥1.7 billion) per series.
