Set in the most challenging concept world in Pixar’s history

The “toy world” of Toy Story, the “monster world” of Monsters, Inc. The “World of What If” in Finding Nemo, the “World Inside Your Head” in Inside Head and the “World of the Dead” in Remember Me are all unique and imaginative [what if] worlds. Elemental, the latest film from Disney & Pixar, which depicts a world inhabited by the elements of fire, water, earth and wind, opens in the US on Friday 16 June (in Japan on Friday 4 August).

The beautiful Japanese poster of the film features Ember, a girl of fire, and Wade, a young man of water, about to touch each other hand in hand. Behind them is the sparkling, colourful city of Element City, where the elements live happily together, but the rules of Element City written between them – “In this world, you cannot associate with different elements” – foreshadow that this story will not be a simple one. The Japanese edition poster has been released.

The Japanese poster depicts the Element City, where the four elements – fire, water, earth and wind – live together. The posters show the unique personalities of the elements, and give a glimpse of the cute and fun world of the elements. At the heart of Element City are a number of unique buildings that symbolise the characteristics of the elements, such as a playful building with a waterslide and a nature-filled building covered with lots of plants. The city is full of exciting attractions that make you want to enter, but the rule is that you cannot associate with a different element…

On the front, Ember and Wade, who have the opposite characteristics of “fire” and “water” and “can’t get involved”, are strikingly depicted trying to touch each other’s hands. Ember, the easily-passionate and family-oriented protagonist, has worked hard for his family to achieve his dream of taking over his father’s shop without ever leaving the city of fire, but one day he happens to meet Wade, a free spirit who is the complete opposite of himself. With Wade, Ember is exposed to the vastness of the world for the first time and suddenly begins to think about her new possibilities – what is it that I really want to do…? Gradually, Ember develops a secret longing for the world outside the world of fire.

[If there were a world of fire, water, earth and wind elements, what would their personalities be like, what would their lives be like, how could they touch each other?] This film is set in the most challenging conceptual world in Pixar’s history. The film is directed by Peter Sohn, who has worked on numerous Pixar films and directed Arlo and the Boy (15), and is a key figure in the future of Pixar. In this film, he portrays Ember and Wade as [a story about a treasured encounter that is a part of everyone’s life, a story about finding your own Elemental potential that you couldn’t realise on your own]. If they really want to, they can erase each other (!?!). The film is a story about the miraculous chemical reaction that occurs between two opposites who cannot even touch each other, and who can erase each other if they really want to. In this 100th anniversary year of the Walt Disney Company, we present to you a miraculous encounter in the colourful and imaginative Elemental City that no one has ever known, and a surprising and moving story of an unpredictable new “what if world”. We hope you will enjoy it!
