Incident with the re-recording of Taylor Swift’s album “Speak Now”

A 43-year-old man was sentenced to eight months in prison in a court in Le Mans, western France. The man, who worked part-time for French manufacturing company MPO France, stole 10 items of merchandise he found while unloading at a warehouse and sold two items for 25 euros (about 3,800 yen) on Le Bon Coin, a well-known French website for buying and selling secondhand goods and renting. The trial that day was related to that case, and the court was also told that when the police tried to arrest the man, he tried to escape through the chimney of his house.

The reason why a €25 cheat became such a big deal is that the man sold the new Taylor Swift album “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version),” which is scheduled to be released on July 7, 2023.

This is Taylor’s third re-recorded album, which she is re-recording from her first to most recent album in order to obtain the original recording rights, and is all songs from her 2010 album, Speak Now, with new songs added. It is also notable for the participation of Fall Out Boy and Hayley Williams.

MPO France, where the man worked, was responsible for the production of “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” in Europe, and according to Ouest-France newspaper, the man told the court that the record “fell out of the box” while unloading. The man, who said he was in financial hardship and “couldn’t afford lunch,” committed the crime “to make ends meet.

Meanwhile, MPO France was aware that the album was on display, and the head of the company’s human resources department pretended to be a customer and bought the album the man was trying to sell. This helped them identify the culprit and cooperate with the investigation, but it did not change the fact that the people they hired had undermined the trust of Universal Music, which was releasing the album, and MPO France’s lawyer said, “If Universal terminates the contract tomorrow, our future will be in jeopardy. Jobs and millions of euros are at stake,” he said.

The whereabouts of the two albums are still unknown, and the amount of compensation the men will pay Universal will be determined in a future trial. Since the announcement of the new album is a big event for Taylor fans, this matter seems to be a hot topic among fans, but some people on social networking sites are calling on the owners not to leak the information, saying “Taylor fans do not leak even if they have it.
