Actress Jada Pinkett-Smith, 51, has revealed that she inspired her family to use psychedelic drugs (hallucinogens).
Jada, who has a son Jaden (24) and daughter Willow (22) with actor Will Smith, said her mother used drugs before them.
Rapper Jaden said at the Psychedelic Science conference in Denver. ‘Actually, I think it was my mother who took the first step for the family, and for a really long time it was just her doing it, but eventually it evolved a little bit and everyone in the family found their own way to it.’
Jaden did not specify which hallucinogen he was referring to specifically, but he said it helped him “in a profound way” in building a stronger relationship with his half-brother and sister. He said, “I argue and fight with my siblings a lot,” but “the level of love and empathy I could feel for them, inside and outside of the psychedelic experience, was deep and beautiful.”
Jaden, whose brother is Trey, 30, whom Will had with his ex-wife, Sherry Zampino, continued on how drug use helped resolve sibling discord. It actually helps to open up the mind and get us out of the old thought patterns that got us into a lot of these arguments, and it helps to free up the brain and give it space to work it out and massage it until it’s completely gone.”
Meanwhile, her mother, Jada, struggles with drug and alcohol addiction, and in a 2021 appearance on Red Table Talk, she said, “I used to drink red wine like water. I’m used to drinking heavily.””I was drinking hard in high school, too, and when I became an actor I was doing ecstasy, alcohol, and weed cocktails. Let’s just say, I kind of enjoyed it.”
Jada said that she quit drugs and alcohol because of “withdrawal symptoms,” and a few months later she revealed that she used hallucinogens to “knock out” her depression.
On the same program, Jada said, “Not everyone is successful. I struggled with depression for a long time. The thing about plant drugs is that they not only make you feel better, but they also solve the problem of why you got depressed in the first place,” she added.
