The personality of Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, 41, the Qatari billionaire who is in the process of buying Manchester United, has been revealed.
Manchester United is being negotiated for sale by the current owners, the Glazer family.
Sheikh Jassim, son of the former prime minister of Qatar and chairman of Qatar Islamic Bank, and Sir Jim Radcliffe, founder of the British chemical company INEOS, are interested in buying the company.
At this point, it is unclear which side will get Manchester United, but Sheikh Jassim, whose true identity is shrouded in a veil, is said to be a hardcore United fan.
According to the Sun, “Fans need not fret if Sheikh Jassim buys Manchester United,” and that his goal is not “just to boost his own ego,” as is often the case with Asian owners.
Apparently, he has been checking out all the official Manchester United games for a long time, and he has assessed the Glazer family system of about 10 years as “underinvested.
Sheikh Jassim is also a graduate of the Royal Military Academy in England and used to work for Credit Suisse, according to The Athletic in England. He calls himself “JJ” and signs his name “JJ” on documents.
At this point, he has offered the Glazer family 5 billion pounds (about 917 billion yen) for the acquisition. He is preparing the necessary documents to take over the management of the company as soon as negotiations are concluded.
It is believed that the company intends to make an offer to legendary former manager Ole Gunnar Søndergaard (50) in some capacity, perhaps as a result of his being a hardcore Manchester United fan.
