Paris Saint-Germain president Al-Khelaifi and Chelsea co-owner Boehly held a secret meeting in Paris on February 14.
They are believed to have discussed the possibility of transferring Brazilian international Neymar from Paris SG to Chelsea, ESPN’s electronic edition reported.
According to ESPN, Paris SG wanted Neymar to leave the club as of last summer. However, they could not find a club to take him back.
The number 10, who turned 31 on the 5th of this month, has a contract remaining with Paris SG until June 2027 with an annual salary of 30 million euros (about 4.2 billion yen), but the club is reportedly out of love with him.
According to sources, Boehly’s co-owners were offered the possibility of acquiring Neymar last summer and were almost tempted to do so, but the move never materialized.
Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel also lobbied to bring Neymar to his Stamford Bridge base in 2022.
President Al-Khelaifi and co-owner Boehly met over lunch at a luxury hotel near the Arc de Triomphe to discuss a possible move for Neymar. They also discussed the near transfer of Moroccan midfielder Ziyech from Chelsea to Paris SG at the end of the winter transfer window, which did not go through due to incomplete paperwork, and the latest developments regarding the possible establishment of a European Super League.
