The new movie “Barbie” starring Margot Robbie has been banned in Vietnam.

However, it has become clear that the film will not be released in Vietnam.

Reuters reported on Monday, citing local reports, that the film has been banned because it features “a map of the disputed area of the South China Sea, which is claimed by the Chinese side.

The sea area is home to a number of countries, including China and Vietnam, that have territorial claims over the resource-rich waters. China claims a U-shaped line of waters in the South China Sea, known as the “Nine-dash Line” because of the way it is depicted on the map. According to Reuters, Vi Kien Thanh, director of the Vietnam Film Department, told the state-run newspaper Tuoi Tre, “We will not allow the American movie ‘Barbie’ to be shown in Vietnam.

This is not the first film to be banned in Vietnam due to this issue. The animated film “Abominable” and “Un-Charted,” starring Tom Holland, were banned for depicting the same map; in 2016, an international tribunal in The Hague ruled that the “Nine-dash Line” had no legal basis, but the Chinese side has ignored this ruling They say.
