Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is a series from “American Horror Story” creator Ryan Murphy.

When it first appeared on streaming in September 2022, it was controversial, with the families of Dahmer’s victims condemning the dramatization of Dahmer’s actions and subsequent trial.

And after the Emmy nominations were announced, Thomas Jacobson, a representative of the victims’ families, issued a statement condemning the nominations.

He said, “By praising and rewarding such portrayals, we risk normalizing the behavior of characters like Dahmer and desensitizing audiences to the real-life consequences of violence.”

Jacobson represented several surviving family members in the 1992 trial in which Dahmer was convicted and sentenced to 15 life sentences.

The series recounted key moments of the trial, including Rita Isbell’s emotional victim statement regarding the death of her brother Errol Lindsay.

Isbell told Insider that she had not been contacted by Netflix or Murphy about the show. Murphy claimed that he tried to contact the family, but no one responded.

Jacobson further stated that honoring a show like “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” would not improve society, and criticized Netflix for focusing on profit rather than compassion.
