Netflix’s documentary “Depp vs. Heard,” based on Johnny Depp’s defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard, has reached No. 1 on Netflix’s Top 10 English-language TV chart.

The documentary program is a three-episode series that documents the muddled trial of actor-couple Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. According to Variety, the series garnered 16.2 million total views during the August 14-20 viewing period, pushing “Pain Killer,” which had 7.2 million views when it premiered on August 10, out of first place.
The mudslinging trial, which began when Heard claimed in a “Washington Post” article that he had been the victim of domestic violence by Depp, and Depp filed a defamation lawsuit against him claiming it was untrue, to which Heard countersued, drew worldwide attention due in part to Depp’s high profile.
The trial was ultimately judged to be false in terms of Heard’s claims of sexual violence and domestic abuse, and Depp won the case. Although both parties subsequently filed for a retrial, the case was settled in December 2022. It has been announced that the $1 million settlement will be donated to several organizations.
This documentary is divided into three episodes, “The Truth on Trial,” “The Internet Frenzy,” and “The Flying Judgment,” with footage from the actual trial, and the two testimonies are edited for each related topic to make the flow of the film easier to understand.
In addition, the film depicts the various facts and phenomena surrounding the trial, including the fans and media who gathered at the court, and how the trial was widely covered on TikTok and YouTube and became a social phenomenon, with both video and audio.
