One of the fans, 52-year-old Sharon Smith, had rushed from the United Kingdom to watch the trial. Smith, who says she just ended a 12-year relationship in England, packed her belongings into a storage unit and flew to Virginia in April when the trial began. She said that she would go to Los Angeles on days when there was no trial and return when the trial resumed. I travel back and forth from L.A., so it costs me $600 to $700 each time,” she explained, commenting that “with hotel, meals, etc., the cost is roughly $10,000.”
In addition, Ivan de Bourg, 59, who used a year’s paid vacation to come from Los Angeles to watch the trial, said the cost has been $30,000 so far. Commenting that “I took a year’s vacation so I could be here for Johnny,” and that “me and Johnny are the same age and single, so we do what we want to do,” he asserted that he “has no regrets” after spending such a large sum of money. If I hadn’t been here, I probably would have regretted it even more.”
