U.S. Secretary of State Blinken paid a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Fumio Kishida at his official residence that morning and conveyed his condolences to Mr. Abe. According to Japanese government officials, a letter from U.S. President Biden to Mr. Abe’s family was handed to the bereaved family through the Secretariat.

According to Taiwanese media, Taiwanese Vice President Lai Ching-tsung visited Abe at his home on July 11, which ranks alongside the highest visit by a sitting vice president to Japan since the late then Vice President Lee Teng-hui stopped by on his way back to Taiwan in 1985, after the 1972 diplomatic ties between Japan and Taiwan.
