British actor Simon Pegg, known for his roles in the “Mission: Impossible” movie series and “Hot Fuzz,” is a big fan of the South Korean global boy group BTS (Bulletproof Youth Team). His daughter was a fan of BTS, and as they watched various videos of BTS on YouTube together, he became an ARMY (*a nickname for BTS fans) himself.

Therefore, Simon and his daughter attended the BTS concert in Las Vegas, USA, on April 16, 2022! They also met the members backstage after the concert. Recalling the experience to Collider, Simon said, “We walked into the room and they were just standing there, just waiting for us to come in. They were really nice and it was an extraordinary experience,” he said, his mouth overflowing with the enthusiasm of his fans.

Simon, in particular, is an avowed fan of Jin, a graduate of Konkuk University’s film arts department in Korea and originally an aspiring actor, but it was RM, the leader of the group, who seemed to get the conversation going when they met face-to-face. There was the fact that RM was a movie buff and fluent in English.

RM is probably the best English speaker in the group. RM is a movie buff. He went to see “Baby Driver” with V, a member of the band, and he definitely knew my work. We talked about the movie and such, and I was very interested to hear about his work. I don’t know if the other members of the band saw “Shaun of the Dead” etc., but I’m sure they did. Whatever it was, they were really nice. (Facing them) was a really nice moment.”

Many people who are good at speaking English often cite watching movies and imitating their lines as an example of how they study English, and it seems that movies had an influence on RM’s English as well. He also said that he learned English by watching the TV drama “Friends”.

It is fresh in our minds that he made a big splash in 2018 when he gave a speech at the UN headquarters in New York, and his English is often regarded as being at the native level. In addition to RM’s efforts to improve his English to that level, this episode also reminds us of the power of entertainment works.
