Among the “iPhone 14” series expected to be released in the fall of this year, there are rumors that the standard model will strategically keep its selling price unchanged, i.e., will not increase its price from iPhone 13. However, there is a new expectation that the Pro model will see a price increase.
Estimated to increase by about 15% over the iPhone 13 generation.
Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst well versed in Apple’s supply chain, estimates that the average selling price (ASP) for the entire iPhone 14 series will increase by about 15% over the iPhone 13 generation. The main reason for this is that the two iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max models will see a price increase and a higher percentage of shipments.
However, the Pro model may have more storage in exchange for the price increase. In June of this year, Taiwanese research firm TrendForce said that the minimum capacity of the iPhone 13 Pro was 128GB, while the iPhone 14 Pro may be raised to 256GB.
There is precedent in the past for increased storage while the minimum price of an iPhone was raised. For example, the iPhone 12 had a 64GB version priced at ¥85,800, but the following year the iPhone 13 had a base model with 128GB for ¥98,800.
In the US, the iPhone 13 Pro starts at $999 and the iPhone 13 Pro Max at $1099. If the price were to increase by about 10%, the iPhone 14 Pro would start at $1,099 and the iPhone 14 Pro Max at $1,199, the same price as the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max with 256GB of storage. This means that the price may remain essentially unchanged.
The iPhone 14 Pro model is also expected to feature the latest A16 chip exclusively, no notch and two punch holes, a 48MP rear camera with 8K video recording support, autofocus for the selfie camera, faster RAM, and constant time and widget display. The standard model of the iPhone 14, on the other hand, is expected to have a 48MP rear camera with 8K video recording.
The standard iPhone 14 model, on the other hand, is expected to retain the A15 chip and notch, with no significant upgrades like the Pro model. This year, the company may intend to make money from the high-margin Pro model while offering a discount on the standard model, which has not changed much from the iPhone 13.
