Bert & Bertie, the female director duo known for the Marvel drama “Hawkeye,” will direct the film adaptation of Disney’s popular attraction “Big Thunder Mountain.
The film has the potential to be an original blockbuster.
Big Thunder Mountain, which opened in 1979 at Disneyland, USA, is one of the most iconic rides at Disney theme parks. It is one of the few Disney theme park attractions that does not belong to an existing film production, meaning that Big Thunder Mountain has the potential to become an original blockbuster movie, like “Pirates of the Caribbean.
According to a new report from Deadline, Disney has tapped the female directing duo Burt and Bertie to direct a film based on Big Thunder Mountain. Burt and Bertie recently directed three episodes of Marvel Studios’ “Hawkeye” and the popular HBO Max series “Our Flag Means Death.” The screenplay will also be written by Michelle Mulroney and Kieran Mulroney, the writers of “Sherlock Holmes Shadow Game,” but no details about the film’s plot are known at this time.
Disney’s attempts to adapt attractions into movies with “Pirates of the Caribbean” were very successful, but “Tomorrowland,” for example, did not prove popular. However, after the success of “Jungle Cruise,” starring Dwayne Johnson, Disney is planning more theme park movie adaptations. The new “Horned Mansion” is slated for a March 10, 2023 U.S. release. Scarlett Johansson is also reportedly producing a new film based on “Tower of Terror.
