Major League Baseball’s “Great Man” is full of praise for the phenomenal two-way star.
Shohei Ohtani (Los Angeles Angels), who has pitched and hit at full strength this season, has literally recorded ace-level high stats as a pitcher with a 15-9 record, a 2.33 earned run average, and 219 strikeouts in 166 innings pitched. As a hitter, he hit .273 with 34 home runs, 95 runs batted in, and an OPS of .875. He became the first player in history to hit 30 home runs and win double-digit games in a season, and to reach the double-digit hitting and pitching milestones.
Even the “greats” of Major League Baseball have lavished praise on this phenomenal two-way star.
In response to this impressive season, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred appeared as a guest on “The Carton Show,” a popular sports program on the U.S. broadcaster FOX Sports, on October 10. Manfred again expressed his admiration for Ohtani, saying, “I presented Ohtani with the Commissioner’s Special Recognition Award last season, and he is truly an extraordinary talent.
I’m getting older, but there will never be another player like him in my lifetime,” he added, emphasizing his singularity. It’s really important for us to have such great players from outside North America who are the best in the world of baseball.
Manfred continued, “I can’t stress enough how important Ohtani is.” In an appearance on ESPN’s “Get Up” program on August 6, he said that Ohtani is “without a doubt one of the best players in the world” and “has a tremendous influence on fans around the world. The unprecedented success of the two-way star seems to have had a tremendous impact on the American baseball world.
Following last season’s success in winning the American League MVP award, Ohtani’s two-way performance has once again thrilled MLB fans on a daily basis. The response to his performance seems to be continuing even now that the regular season has come to an end.
