Depicting the life of feline painter Louis Wain

From the end of the 19th century to the 20th century, Lewis Wain was a very popular illustrator who was unknown in the United Kingdom. He was the first “cat painter” to “discover” the appeal of cats, which at the time were regarded lightly as rat killers or feared as sinister. He is also said to be the author of the postcard that appears in the immortal masterpiece “I am a Cat. Lewis Wayne is said to be the creator of the postcard that appears in the immortal masterpiece “I am a Cat.” He was the inspiration for Soseki Natsume, the great Japanese writer, and was acclaimed by H.G. Wells, the master of science fiction, who said, “Lewis Wayne invented his own cat. The film “Lewis Wayne: My Wife and Her Cat,” which depicts the extraordinary life of this legendary feline artist, will open in theaters nationwide on December 1 (Thu.).

Two new poster visuals created by graphic designer Yoromoa Oshima have been released. One is the “main visual,” which is a reconstruction of the design used in the UK. The main visual depicts Lewis Wayne (played by Benedict Cumberbatch) and his wife Emily (played by Claire Foy) cuddling their beloved cat, Peter. Next to the happy couple is a copy of the film that reads, “The memories of you and your cat will protect me forever. The other is a design that symbolizes the Japanese title of the film. The other is the “cat visual,” in which a large number of cats drawn by Lewis Wayne (a.k.a. “Lewis Wayne Cats”) fill the screen. These dull-eyed anthropomorphic cats are drinking tea, smoking cigars, playing with toys, and sitting on chairs, in a cute design full of feline charm. The two visuals, featuring Lewis Wayne’s beloved “wife” and “cats,” will be distributed as B5 flyers in theaters and other locations where the film is scheduled to be shown.
