The Ballon d’Or, the world’s most prestigious soccer award, was won for the first time by Karim Benzema (34), the French international from Real Madrid of Spain’s first division. On the other hand, the French media outlet RMC Sports reported that Benzema’s former club, Lyon, failed to receive a bonus of 1 million euros (approximately 146 million yen).

He got 1 million euros as a bonus from R Madrid.

According to the media outlet, there was a special bonus clause in Benzema’s contract when he moved to R. Madrid from Lyon in the summer of 2009 for a transfer fee of 35 million euros (approximately 5.11 billion yen). The clause stated, “If Benzema wins the Ballon d’Or, Lyon will pay 1 million euros to Benzema.

Lyon was expecting an “extra bonus,” but “the bonus clause had already been removed, it was only valid for the first contract signed by the striker at R. Madrid,” and when Benzema renewed his contract with R. Madrid in 2015, the clause was removed, he said. The clause was removed when Benzema renewed his contract with R Madrid in 2015. Benzema’s Ballon d’Or crown had absolutely no impact on Lyon’s finances,” the media outlet reported.

On the other hand, Benzema himself got 1 million euros as a bonus from R Madrid. The French football magazine, which selects the award, will not pay him any prize money.
