He cited her role in promoting Albanian fame internationally through her music as the reason for the award.

President Begazi said he considered this an honor because Dua had made Albanians famous throughout the world. Before taking the oath of citizenship at Tirana City Hall, Dua said, “I will also become an Albanian with my papers.”

She later wrote on Instagram, “Thank you President Bajram Begazi and Mayor @erionveliaj for this honor. I am now an Albanian citizen!!!!” She added.

Born in 1995 in London to Albanian parents Anesa and Dukagjin Lipa, who immigrated from Kosovo, Dua began singing at the age of five. Influenced musically by his father, a former singer and guitarist in a rock band, he began posting songs on YouTube when he was 14 and released his first studio debut album in 2017; in 2019, he won a Grammy Award for Best New Artist.

Dua said, “It’s a great joy to be so accepted and loved, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.” He then had his passport photo taken, fingerprinted, and signed his ID hard and passport application.
