A man who attacked a man walking popular singer and actress Lady Gaga’s dog and stole the dog was sentenced to 21 years in prison.
He didn’t know it was Lady Gaga’s dog.
The man ordered to serve the sentence is James Howard Jackson, who will spend the next 21 years in prison after accepting a plea deal on Monday, December 5.
According to the LA County District Attorney’s Office, Jackson pleaded no contest to one count of attempted murder, but admitted to assault and battery. Jackson was charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit robbery, and also assault with a semiautomatic firearm.
In response to the decision, the Prosecutor’s Office issued a statement saying, “The plea agreement holds Jackson accountable for his acts of violence and brings justice to the victims.
Jackson was one of a group of five perpetrators.
The incident occurred last February on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles. Ryan Fisher, a walker, was walking three of Lady Gaga’s dogs, including her two French bulldogs at the time, “Cage” and “Gustav,” when he was attacked by a group of criminals who were roaming around targeting high-end dogs.
Ryan Fisher was severely assaulted and transported to the hospital with a blow to the chest, and his two French bulldogs were taken from him. Fisher had part of his lung removed, but has since recovered and been released from the hospital.
Cage and Gustav were also returned safely to Gaga two days after the incident. Meanwhile, Jennifer McBride, who delivered the dogs to the police at that time, was also arrested as an accomplice.
The perpetrators claimed that they did not know that the targeted dog was Lady Gaga’s dog, and that they knew that French bulldogs fetch a high price, which led them to commit the crime.
