Nirvana, Heart Wilson Sisters and Others to Receive Grammy Award for Special Achievement

The Recording Academy of America announced on January 5 that Nirvana and Heart sisters Anne and Nancy Wilson will receive Grammy Awards for Distinguished Lifetime Achievement.

They won the Best Alternative Music Performance for “MTV Unplugged in New York” at the 38th Annual GRAMMY Awards.

This year, the award will be presented to Nile Rodgers, Bobby McFarlin, Ma Rainey, Slick Rick, and the Supremes.

 

The Special Achievement Award will be presented at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles on February 4, the day before the 65th Grammy Awards ceremony.

 

In addition, the Audio Engineering Society and Dr. Andy Hildebrand will receive the Distinguished Technical Achievement Award for Technical Achievement. The Audio Engineering Society and Dr. Andy Hildebrand will be honored with a Special Achievement Technical Grammy Award.

 

Nirvana has been nominated for six Grammy Awards and won Best Alternative Music Performance for “MTV Unplugged in New York” at the 38th Grammy Awards. One of their best-known songs, “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2017.
