The FFF recently extended the contract of Didier Deschamps, who has led the French national team since July 2012, until 2026. There had also been rumors of an invitation to former French midfielder Zinedine Zidane, but President Le Graët said, “I don’t care. If Zidane contacted me, I wouldn’t even pick up the phone. He can go wherever he wants.

On January 11, the French Football Federation (FFF) announced the start of the procedure for the resignation of President Noël Le Graët.

This lack of respect for the national legend caused controversy, with French FW Kylian Ebappé (Paris Saint-Germain) saying on his Twitter account, “Zidane is France itself. We would never insult such a legend.

Real Madrid, where Zidane played and coached, also condemned Le Graët in an official statement. The French Minister of Sports also demanded an apology from Le Graët.

President Le Graët added on January 9, “I admit that I made a clumsy statement that could be misunderstood,” but this did not quell the fire, and the FFF’s national ethics committee demanded Le Graët’s resignation, leading to an extraordinary meeting of the FFF’s executive committee on January 11.

After a meeting lasting more than two hours, it was decided that President Le Graët would step down from his top position “until the final word on the audit commissioned by the Ministry of Sport is received and the FFF Executive Committee has analyzed it. The investigator’s report is expected by the end of January, according to “RMC.” It was also decided that Vice President Philippe Diallo will take over on an interim basis.
