Jeff Beck Dies at 78, One of the World’s Leading Rock Guitarists

Jeff Beck, one of the world’s most popular rock guitarists and a native of the United Kingdom, died on January 10 at the age of 78.

The Associated Press reported the news, and an official announced the cause of death on January 11, saying, “Suddenly, he contracted bacterial meningitis.

Beck joined the Yardbirds in 1965, replacing Eric Clapton (77), and played in his own band (the Jeff Beck Group) with vocalist Rod Stewart (78) and bassist Ron Wood (75, later the Rolling Stones).

 

After that, he established himself as an instrumental guitarist.

 

In Japan, he was introduced as one of the three greatest rock guitarists along with Clapton and Jimmy Page (79=Led Zeppelin), and his 1989 album “Guitar Shop” won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumentalist.
