The 21st round of the Premier League season took place on January 23, with Tottenham and Fulham playing each other.

Tottenham has now lost two straight Premier League games, and in their last five league games, they have not been in good form, winning one, losing one, and losing three. With a view to qualifying for next season’s Champions League, they cannot afford to lose to Fulham in this matchup. Fulham, despite their 0-1 loss to Newcastle in their last match, have won four straight Premier League games and are in the top half of the table. They are in a position to qualify for the European Cup next season, and a win this time around would allow them to overtake Tottenham, who are tied with Fulham in the number of games played.

Tottenham fielded the same 11-man starting lineup as they did against Manchester C, with Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, and Cristian Romero among the starters. Fulham, on the other hand, made one change from the previous game. Antony Robinson came in at left back, while Layvan Kurzawa started on the bench.

The match kicked off 15 minutes later than previously scheduled due to local traffic. Fulham had the first chance of the game in the 10th minute, when Bobby Reid took the ball high and fired home a shot from the edge of the box. In the 12th minute, Andreas Pereira took a free kick in front of the penalty area, but both were saved by goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, and in the 19th minute, Harrison Reed attempted to volley in a cross from A. Pereira on the right side, but again was denied by goalkeeper Lloris.

In the 36th minute, Tottenham received a cross from Dejan Krzyzewski deep down the right flank, and Emerson Royal finished with his right foot, but his shot was blocked by goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

The first half seemed to be coming to an end, but in first-half added time, the game finally broke the deadlock. Song received a pass from Pierre-Emile Heubülck and connected with Kane in front of goal, who turned and shot with his right foot despite being on his back. The goalkeeper’s well-targeted strike was sucked into the right corner of the goal, putting Tottenham ahead going into halftime. With this goal, Kane equaled Jimmy Greaves’ record for the most goals in an official game for Tottenham (266). It was also the first Premier League goal scored at Fulham’s Craven Cottage.

Tottenham’s first chance of the second half came in the 57th minute when Krzyzewski’s cross was turned in by Ben Davies on the far side after a short right corner kick, and Kane was on hand to head home. The goal was not to be, however, as Fulham’s “guardian angel” Leno was once again on hand to deny the visitors a goal. Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic headed an early cross from Tom Cairney in the 75th minute, but his shot was just wide of the target.

Time expired as the match went on. Kane’s memorable goal was the decisive goal, and Tottenham got their first whitewash in three Premier League matches. On the other hand, Fulham has lost two consecutive games.

Tottenham will play Manchester C at home on February 5, and Fulham will play Chelsea away on February 3.
