Ozzy Osbourne released a statement on Instagram on January 31. Ozzy began by saying, “This is probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to share with my loyal fans. As you may all know, four years ago, this month, I had a major accident, where I damaged my spine.,” he prefaced.
Ozzy continued, “My one and only purpose during this time has been to get back on stage. My singing voice is fine. However, after three operations, stem cell treatments, endless physical therapy sessions, and most recently groundbreaking Cybernics (HAL) Treatment, my body is still physically weak,” he said, revealing that he is continuing treatment but not improving.
He added, I am honestly humbled by the way you’ve all patiently held onto your tickets for all this time, but in all good conscience, I have now come to the realization that I’m not physically capable of doing my upcoming European/UK tour dates, as I know I couldn’t deal with the travel required. Believe me when I say that the thought of disappointing my fans really FUCKS ME UP, more than you will ever know,” he said, giving his reasons for canceling future shows.
Ozzy announced his retirement from touring, writing, “I never imagined my touring days would end this way. My team is currently working on ideas that will allow me to perform without having to travel from city to city and country to country,” he revealed.
Ozzy concluded, “I want to thank my family…my band…my crew…my longtime friends ‘Judas Priest’ and, of course, my fans for their endless devotion, loyalty, support, and for giving me a life I never dreamed possible. I love you all… You can get your tickets refunded at the place where you purchased them,” he concluded with words of gratitude.
The announcement of his retirement was met with a response from longtime passionate fans: “We all thought Ozzy was immortal, that he would live forever. And I still believe that in my heart. We salute you, Ozzie. Thank you for everything.” and “Ozzy, you kept giving your fans music and live shows for decades. Now take care of yourself. I wish you good health,” etc.
