Why Spielberg turned down the offer to direct “Harry Potter

Steven Spielberg, who has created many masterpieces such as “Jaws,” “E.T.,” “Indiana Jones,” and “Jurassic Park,” explained why he turned down the opportunity to direct “Harry Potter” with S.S. Rajamauli, director of the film “RRR. In an interview with Reliance Entertainment, Spielberg revealed his reasons for refusing to direct “Harry Potter.

When asked if he ever felt torn between his art and his family, Spielberg said, “It was after I established myself as a filmmaker. I was just starting a family with Kate and we had a child. For me at that time, taking the job meant going to another country for four or five months and not seeing my family. It was a tearing experience,” he replied. He said that he had no regrets about some of the other films he had to abandon in addition to “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

He added, “I turned down the first “Harry Potter” film in order to spend a year and a half with my family and watch my young children grow up. It was a sacrifice of a great franchise, but looking back, I’m really glad I did that because it allowed me to be with my family.”

Incidentally, Spielberg valued being with his family more than anything else, and when he made “Schindler’s List,” he moved his entire family to Krakow, Poland, just for the duration of filming.
