New footage of Disney’s live-action version of “The Little Mermaid” has been released, showing Eartha and Prince Eric for the first time.
What the live-action world will look like in the new “The Little Mermaid” video
Disney’s “The Little Mermaid,” which opens nationwide on June 9, is a live-action adaptation of the 1989 animated film of the same name. Grammy-nominated sister duo Chloe and Halle’s Halle Bailey will play Ariel.
When the first teaser trailer was released in September 2022 and Halle sang the song, numerous videos of black children who saw it being moved were spread on the Internet, and adults were struck by the impact this film had on children.
In addition to Ariel, there are many other famous characters in such works, including Eartha, Prince Eric, Flander the fish, Scuttle the seagull, and Sebastian the crab. And in a new video released recently, we get our first glimpse of Eartha and Prince Eric!
Prince Eric is played by Jonah Hauer King, and the villain, Eartha, is played by comedic actor Melissa McCarthy. Melissa is not a professional singer like Halle, but she too will be singing, and in the process of preparing for the role, she revealed that she was “very surprised that I could control my voice,” so expect to hear her singing as well as acting.
In the video released this time, there is a romantic scene in which Prince Eric and Ariel hold hands and gaze at each other, then move their faces closer together. And finally, with a laugh, Eartha stares at us in the dark…!
The film is notable not only for Ariel, but also for the supporting cast, including comedic actor Melissa’s Eartha. We can’t wait to see images of Triton, King of the Sea, played by Javier Bardem, and Flander, Scuttle, and Sebastian, played by Jacob Tremblay, Oakwafina, and Davido Diggs.
